With its rugged and picturesque landscape, Vân Long Lagoon in Gia Viễn district, Ninh Bình province, is not only a green tourist destination but also featured in the blockbuster movie 'Kong: Skull Island'.
Vân Long Lagoon – Setting of the famous movie 'Kong: Skull Island'
Vân Long Lagoon was formed when a dyke over 30km long was built along the left bank of the Đáy River to prevent flooding. The dyke construction has transformed the Vân Long area into a vast expanse of wetlands, with beautiful rocky islands and caves.

The lagoon covers an area of 3,500 hectares, making it the largest wetland nature reserve in the Red River Delta region. It is home to thousands of aquatic species and plants, notably the Delacour's langur (or white-legged langur) – currently facing the threat of extinction.

Due to its significant biological value, in 2019, the Vân Long wetland nature reserve was recognized as the 9th Ramsar site in Vietnam and the 2,360th Ramsar site globally.

Vân Long Lagoon has been developed for tourism since the early 2000s and has now become a captivating destination. Amidst the limestone mountain ranges, visitors can observe flocks of storks returning to their nests, enjoy the refreshing water, or admire langurs foraging along the mountainside.

Vân Long Lagoon boasts a charming landscape of serene waters and is a region with a high biodiversity density. The eroded limestone mountains and captivating caves serve as shelters for many rare animal species and countless bird species.

Visitors to the lagoon can opt to rent a bamboo boat to explore various directions and have the opportunity to witness a diverse range of wildlife. The boat tour lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, with ticket prices around 100,000 VND/boat/2 passengers.

Vân Long is a tranquil lagoon with calm waters resembling a large mirror. The reed beds create a scenery imbued with a mysterious wilderness. Bamboo boats serve tourists from morning till evening, allowing them to freely choose the time to visit the lagoon and nearby attractions such as the Kênh Gà hot spring, the ancient capital Hoa Lư, and the Bái Đính pagoda...
