Genesis Carmona, the 2013 Tourism Queen of Carabobo state, tragically lost her life during a protest on February 18th.

Genesis Carmona was struck by a bullet to her head while participating in a protest in the city of Valencia, Carabobo state, against the government of President Nicolas Maduro. Despite being rushed to the emergency hospital, she passed away at noon the following day, February 19th.
Images of the young beauty being carried on a motorcycle for emergency treatment after being shot circulated on social media. Shocking pictures of Genesis covered in blood at the hospital also deeply shook public opinion in Venezuela.

Genesis lost her life at the age of 22. This stunning young woman had recently been crowned as the 2013 Tourism Queen of Carabobo state and was working as a model. She was also pursuing studies in tourism and social sciences at Tecnológica del Centro de Valencia University.
Genesis Carmona is the second beauty queen in Venezuela to be fatally shot in street violence this year. In January, Monica Spear, Miss Universe Venezuela 2004, was also shot along with her husband while vacationing in the city of Caracas.
