Even now, Viego is still regarded as one of Riot's somewhat unsuccessful champions.
Recalling the 2021 season, Riot unveiled the champion Viego through a spectacular event named The Ruination - Sentinel of Light. This event transcended League of Legends, reaching across the entire Riot Games universe, complete with a cinematic presentation and appearances in real-world cities.

However, The Ruination - Sentinel of Light faced harsh criticism for its lackluster content and Riot's character narrative. With the release of the RPG game Ruined King, the League of Legends community found temporary solace. Yet, Viego turned out to be Riot's immensely troublesome champion, appearing 5 out of 7 times with amusing bugs. Despite his formidable strength, Viego became a design failure, earning Riot considerable controversy.
But lately, the League of Legends community persists in hurling criticism at Riot for the Viego champion. The cause is that Viego surprisingly lacks any dialogue when purchasing the Blade of the Immortal King weapon in the in-game store, even though this equipment is essentially derived from Viego's own sword.

Notably, Viego's lack of dialogue upon purchasing the Blade of the Immortal King makes his interaction with this item even less than Yorick's, a champion originating from the Shadow Isles. Specifically, when Yorick buys this item, the Maiden will say 'The sword of a splendid man,' while Yorick sarcastically remarks: 'The sword of a fool.'

However, some opinions suggest that it's simply because Riot is no longer heavily focused on designing voice lines for champions when interacting in the in-game shop. Nevertheless, since Viego is a special champion with a weapon named after him in the game, according to some views, Riot should make an exception. This would increase the excitement for players using this champion while accurately reflecting Riot's investment in the 'grandiose yet entirely failed' debut of Viego last year.
