On the first day of resumption, Phu Bai Airport welcomed 7 flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Hue. Vietnam Airlines (VNA) operated 5 flights from HCMC and Hanoi, while the remaining two were operated by VietJetAir from HCMC.
Phu Bai Airport (Hue) officially resumed operations on September 20 after a 6-month closure for runway repairs. Resuming operations two months earlier will boost the influx of visitors to Hue.
After the upgrade, Phu Bai Airport's terminal will have 3 additional gates for peak hours, enabling it to accommodate large aircraft such as Boeing 737, A321, with dozens of flights per day.
Phu Bai Airport suspended operations from March 20 for runway and terminal repairs. During the closure, the cost of tours to Hue increased as travel companies had to incur additional expenses for renting vehicles from Da Nang to Hue.
To celebrate the reopening of Phu Bai Airport, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Thua Thien – Hue province is organizing a tourism promotion program. The program includes direct incentives for tourists such as room discounts, additional services, and extra sightseeing points when purchasing tickets to visit historical sites or attending free traditional music performances. This program will run until September 25.
