Flight VN98 departed from Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 20:57 on November 28 and landed at San Francisco International Airport at 19:42 on November 28 (local time), which is 10:42 on November 29 Vietnam time. The total non-stop flight time from Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco is 13 hours and 45 minutes.

Flight VN98 has heralded a new phase of operations for VNA on the USA route. Specifically, from December 2021, Vietnam Airlines will operate regular direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco with a frequency of 2 flights per week.

The airline will increase to 7 flights per week once the pandemic is under control and the Vietnamese government allows the resumption of regular international flights.
