The Vietnam Military History Museum is a cornerstone in the system of six National Museums and also the first military museum. Established on July 17, 1956, at 28A Dien Bien Phu, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. It serves as the repository and exhibition space for approximately 150,000 valuable artifacts representing the historical, cultural, and military context of resistance wars against invading forces, spanning from the era of the Hung Kings to President Ho Chi Minh.

The museum boasts an extensive display system both indoors and outdoors, covering an area of up to 3,200m2. Outside the museum, you'll find monumental war artifacts, significant in size and scope, closely associated with the triumphs and challenges of our nation during the extraordinary resistance against the French and the Americans.

The Vietnam Military History Museum's system is divided into 3 two-story buildings dedicated to exhibiting and preserving artifacts and materials for sightseeing and studying military history. In the first building near the entrance on Dien Bien Phu Street, the first floor showcases historical artifacts reflecting the nation-building efforts and resistance before 1930. On the second floor, you'll find a display area featuring Vietnam's military artifacts from 1930 until the end of the anti-French resistance (1954) and the iconic battlefield of Dien Bien Phu campaign.

The next building, on the first floor, is divided into three exhibition areas: the anti-American resistance from 1954 to 1968, the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and the total offensive in the spring of 1975. The second floor is divided into three display areas covering: Vietnam's history during the anti-American resistance from 1969 to 1975, an exhibit of rudimentary homemade weapons during the war years from 1945 to 1975, and notably a section preserving artifacts related to the world's support for the Vietnam National Liberation War.
