At a home appliance supermarket on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), Ms. Như Ý (Thu Duc District) is looking to purchase an air purifier for her bedroom. 'Recently, the air pollution in Ho Chi Minh City is too severe. Colleagues at work advised me to buy an air purifier to protect my family's health. I'm not sure how effective it will be, but I think it's better to have one than not,' Ms. Ý shared.
Mr. Vu Hoang, from Thanh Xuan District (Hanoi), is satisfied with the Sharp air purifier priced at 6 million dong that he recently bought. 'After a few days of use, I feel the air is fresher. The readings on the machine have also improved. I plan to equip each room with one soon,' Mr. Hoang said.

A manager of an electronics store on Tran Hung Dao Street (District 1) stated that machines priced from 6 to 12 million dong are the most popular. 'Compared to cheaper products, devices in this price range have many features, especially in air filtration and quality control. This segment also converges famous brands from Japan, the United States, or South Korea, so it's a preferred choice,' he explained.
Not only in electronics stores, but air purifiers are also sold extensively on social media and classified websites. Besides genuine products, online shops also advertise imported models from China like Xiaomi, or used Japanese 'second-hand' goods.
Depending on the price, different types of machines also have different functions. Cheaper devices only have dust filtering and air quality monitoring via smartphones, while higher-end models also have features like dehumidification, moisture replenishment, antibacterial properties..., some can even eliminate insects.

'Users should not blindly trust advertisements from stores, especially online, as they may be exaggerated. In reality, the functionality of air purifiers has not been fully verified. They can clean the air, filter dust, but may not completely eliminate fine and ultrafine dust,' Phong said. Additionally, Phong also mentioned that very few devices currently have functions such as dehumidification, moisture balance, or moisturizing the skin and hair as advertised in many places. If desired, users must purchase additional products with these features.
Mr. Vu Hai (District 2, Ho Chi Minh City), a technician specializing in advising and installing air purifiers, believes that if purchasing, users need to consider factors such as the area of the room to optimize performance and avoid unnecessary waste, such as excessive power consumption. Along with that, it is advisable to choose reputable brands and stores, avoid buying from unreliable sources to avoid unjustified losses as they all have prices that are not cheap at all, or it is best to go with someone knowledgeable to seek advice.
