Popular Vietnamese Rice Spot Attracts Early Morning Crowds in An Giang
Nguyen's broken rice eatery, located across from the Tinh Bien border market (An Giang), has been serving customers since 2001 and moved to its current address six years ago.

According to Ha, to serve a large number of customers each morning, the meat and ribs are marinated the night before, following a special recipe. 'Spices need time to penetrate the meat, including a bit of honey; it tastes best when grilled, not dry,' Ha said.
On the red charcoal stove, the meat is continuously flipped. When nearly cooked, the chef brushes a bit more seasoned water on it again. The grill is placed in front of the eatery, and the aroma of the meat wafts through the air with the smoke. The grilled ribs have a burnt edge, carrying the smoky scent but still maintaining a tender interior. When you eat, you'll taste the harmonious salty-sweet flavor.

For nearly two decades, members of Ha's family have collaborated in the eatery. Currently, Ha takes the central kitchen counter role, dishing out rice for customers, while her son manages serving duties. On busy days, her mother also lends a hand.
According to Ha, the deliciousness of the food depends on each diner's taste. The menu here offers broken rice served with grilled ribs, shredded pork skin, and pork sausage. The eatery also adds pickled vegetables and boiled duck eggs to enhance the dining experience.
The space inside the eatery is modest, with worn-out tables and chairs neatly arranged in a space of over 20 square meters. Due to its proximity to the Tinh Bien border market in An Giang, this place attracts both tourists and locals. Every day, the eatery sells over a hundred plates of rice from early morning until 10 a.m. Many latecomers have to turn away.
