Black Panther: Wakanda Forever recognized as the best film of Marvel Phase 4, yet still has limitations.
On the evening of November 9, the blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered, drawing considerable attention from Vietnamese audiences and media. The return of the Black Panther warrior after many years is seen as a 'significant signal' not only concluding Marvel Phase 4 but also indicating the next steps for Wakanda after the passing of T'Challa, or Chadwick Boseman. Here are the first reviews from Vietnamese audiences and commentaries after the first screening.
The Best Film of Marvel Phase 4
Many opinions agree that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the best project of Phase 4. Among them, Queen Ramonda and Shuri are the most praised characters thanks to their outstanding performances, along with the most profound and well-invested film development.
Film Review Websites Evaluate:
'THE BEST SUPERHERO FILM OF THE YEAR... ONLY SECOND TO THE BATMAN
Pros:
- Full and emotional performances of the main cast (especially the Queen).
- Scene and costume designs remain excellent as in the first part.
- Good and fitting music, worth listening to repeatedly.
- Chadwick's tribute brings a complete and touching feeling.
Cons:
- The film is a bit long-winded.
- Some unnecessary comedic situations but not exaggerated like the Rabbit.
- The final battle scene is not satisfying, if not to say, QUITE INFERIOR compared to the status of the two leaders of the two most powerful kingdoms.
- Riri has not left much impression besides introducing the character and only seems like a forced excuse to drive the actions of the characters.
Conclusion: Black Panther 2 is still a worthwhile film, much better than many recent low-quality Marvel releases'.
Viewer L.L.N couldn't contain their emotions as Marvel delves deep into an emotional theme, especially a nation, a family just experienced a great loss:
Emotions may be the biggest advantage of Black Panther 2 as from the start, the film was built from loss. According to T.D audience, the film has few action scenes but compensates with abundant emotions. Additionally, another audience was extremely surprised when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever credited many Vietnamese names.
Lengthy, shaky effects
Besides the praises, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever still receives many mixed opinions from Vietnamese audiences. The superhero movie review site SUPERWORLD is disappointed when the characters' personalities are different from the first part, coupled with unnecessarily lengthy plots.
SUPERWORLD's overall review:
' I wouldn't say the movie is good or bad, but actually, it's still far from being bad but calling it good... it's weird. Character development is weird, characters behave differently from the first part. They completely turn 180 degrees, only Shuri is carefully portrayed, can be said to be glorified as a saintly woman. But suddenly in part 2, every character talks about morality. Like, when they open their mouths, it's a long, complicated sentence that can't be displayed all at once on the screen. Even M’Baku suddenly talks about morality and humanitarianism.
But anyway, I'll focus on Namor a bit. Heard he's carrying the team, he's an excellent antagonist, I was really looking forward to it. But unexpectedly in the movie, he's the moral lord, the puppeteer.
[…]
Luckily his voice is nice and his eyes are wet, so whatever he says sounds convincing.
[…]
The movie is unnecessarily long. The tribute to T'challa part, let's leave it for another time. This movie probably costs a billion dollars, not bad to watch but it feels strained and flashy. End.'
However, what concerns many audiences in the second part of Black Panther is also the visual effects - something that used to be Marvel's strength. Some feel uncomfortable when the underwater kingdom of Talokan is too impoverished and dark. Moreover, many messy, clumsy errors in visual effects continue to be prominent on the screen, something that has appeared in some recent Marvel movies.
Viewer V.N shares:
' Pros:
- Good character psychology construction
- Emotional-rich performances, especially Angela Bassett as Queen of Wakanda
- Excellent costumes and settings
- Touching tribute to Chadwick Boseman
- Great movie score
Cons:
- Scenes in the Talokan kingdom are too dark
- The middle part of the movie is a bit draggy
- The final battle scene is unsatisfactory
In conclusion, still the best superhero movie of the year folks '
Viewer N.N.Đ remarks:
'Marvel's VFX team, send out the distress signal. Some scenes feel like they're rendered with fear, darker than Game of Thrones.'
Viewer Đ.H shares:
'This is so good, portraying graceful and charming women's power but just enough. I don't like being stuck mourning for Chadwick so focusing on Shuri, I highly appreciate the development in this part. Overall, love love love x1000 more than part 1. But the VFX, in many places, is too surreal. Come on Marvel VFX team, take a breather...'
