Da Nang is a land of extraordinary talents, giving birth to numerous national heroes, including Mr. Ích Khiêm, a legendary general during the Nguyen dynasty. In gratitude for his contributions, the people of Da Nang have built a tomb complex to commemorate this national hero. Today, along with other famous tourist destinations in Da Nang, Mr. Ích Khiêm's tomb has become a familiar cultural tourism address for travelers.
Born as Mục Chi on December 21, 1829, in Phong Lệ village, Thanh Quýt commune, Điện Bàn district, Quảng Nam province (now in Phong Lệ Bắc area, Hòa Thọ Đông ward, Cẩm Lệ district, Đà Nẵng city), Mr. Ích Khiêm hailed from a farmer's family but showcased intelligence and cleverness from an early age.

In the 7th year of Thiệu Trị reign (Đinh Mùi, 1847), he participated in and passed the imperial examination in Huế, Bình Định province, earning the title of Bachelor. Appointed as the Tri huyện of Kim Thành district, Hải Dương province, Mr. Ích Khiêm was not only renowned for his literary and martial talents but also known as an upright and compassionate leader, deeply caring for the well-being of his soldiers.
His official career faced ups and downs, experiencing dismissals and reinstatements. However, he held prestigious positions, including the Tả thị lang Bộ binh. Not only did he contribute significantly to the nation, but he also directly commanded the defense of famous tourist spots in Da Nang during the French colonial invasion in 1858. His life and career serve as a shining example for generations to come.

In 1884, Mr. Ích Khiêm passed away, and his remains were brought back to his homeland for burial. A memorial tomb was erected to express gratitude for the heroic deeds of this distinguished general.

Established since 1938, the memorial site of Mr. Ích Khiêm has been recognized as a nationally significant historical relic in need of preservation. Beyond its profound historical importance, it has long become one of the familiar tourist spots in Da Nang for visitors when they come to this city.

Visitors here not only gain insights into the life and career of the heroic general but also marvel at a distinctive architectural masterpiece. Although not as grand as other tombs, the Ích Khiêm Tomb with its unique octagonal architecture has attracted the attention of many tourists.
The tomb area at the Da Nang tourist destination has a length of 13.8m from the entrance, a width of 6.1m, and a surrounding wall height of 0.72m. In the front, there is a commemorative house with a stone tablet adorned with dragon, phoenix, and floral motifs. The inscription on the tablet reads:
“Dynasty – Honoring the ancestral military role, glorifying the Central Brave.
In the 13th year of Bảo Đại, April, auspicious day.”
Meaning:
”Nguyễn Dynasty – forefather held the military role of Central Brave, titled as the Honorable Central Brave.
In the 13th year of Bảo Đại, April, on an auspicious day.”

Adjacent to the tomb area is a commemorative house with a memorial shrine, a place where visitors from all directions come to offer incense in remembrance of the hero.
