British voice actress for Mikasa, Trina Nishimura, shares her emotions after each recording session, leaving many deeply saddened.
Since its debut in 2013 with Season 1, Attack on Titan has proven to be a truly compelling animated series with its portrayal of incredibly strong yet tragic characters. Perhaps it's because they are so resilient and brave that witnessing what they endure is deeply saddening and shocking for many. One such character is Mikasa.
In Attack on Titan, Mikasa is the main female character and part of the trio of childhood friends with the protagonist Eren and the prodigy Armin. Mikasa, once a victim of human traffickers, witnessed her parents being murdered before her eyes. Fortunately, Eren's appearance and rescue awakened the 'beast' within Mikasa, turning her into a killing machine befitting the Ackerman lineage. Grateful for Eren's help, Mikasa sees him as her reason to live, vowing to protect and cherish him. However, fate cruelly pits them against each other.
Now Mikasa must witness Eren's transformation, putting her in a difficult situation. She's trapped in her own dilemma, torn between fighting the one she loves or following his plan to exterminate humanity. Love clashes with reason, leaving her breathless with inner turmoil.

This deeply moved Trina Nishimura every time she immersed herself in the character of Mikasa. She shared: 'I feel everything in Season 4 is both painful and harsh. There are no more moments on the beach, no more peaceful scenes, it's all harsh reality for Mikasa. I think the biggest challenge for me was the scene on the rooftop, I really felt the difficulty. As a voice actor, you convey your own emotions and experiences into the character's situation, so it's really sad and scary.'
