In our surroundings, there are always things that disrupt and make focusing on work more challenging. An anti-distraction hat has been invented to address these issues. However, the hat seems quite creepy, resembling a prop from a horror movie rather than a beneficial invention for users.

Perhaps one of the most challenging aspects humans face is the ability to think and concentrate for extended periods. Whether you're a lawyer carefully examining or memorizing arguments or a researcher tackling a complex problem, high-level concentration on the subject is more crucial than ever.
Most individuals desiring such focus find it essential to seek a quiet place to complete their work. However, even within the confines of their homes, numerous distractions that disrupt concentration can persist.
For example, while seated indoors, focused and attempting to memorize lengthy outlines, suddenly a door within the house slams shut due to the wind. In an instant, your train of thought is disrupted.

In July 1925, American inventor of European descent Hugo Gernsback proposed a solution to combat distraction. He introduced a concentration-disrupting hat called The Isolator, claiming it could eliminate 95% of surrounding noise.
The Isolator is designed to limit visual access, helping the wearer concentrate entirely on their task. The hat's small lenses are painted black, leaving only a tiny slit for users to see through.
The hat appears extremely constricting, and indeed, prolonged wear may cause users to be suffocated by their own CO2 emissions. Therefore, an Oxygen tank needs to be attached to this hat, contributing to its even more peculiar appearance.

You might think this peculiar-looking noise-canceling hat is just one of many forgotten inventions, but recently, the idea has been revived by the design company Hochu Rayu with a hat named Helmfon.
Helmfon not only enhances user concentration but also provides space for your own tablet for watching movies or other virtual reality experiences. It comes fully equipped with a microphone, Bluetooth, catering to the increasing demand for remote work. And due to its soundproof nature, users can leverage any noisy or cramped space for online work and learning.

This modern noise-canceling hat is essentially designed to isolate the wearer, creating a quiet environment anywhere bustling. Quite useful, especially in times of pandemics when people need to work flexibly anywhere. So, the idea of The Isolator by inventor Hugo Gernsback isn't a ludicrous one, unless you mind wearing a rather peculiar device due to concerns about how others perceive your appearance.
Gernsback is often hailed as the 'Father of Science Fiction,' and The Isolator noise-canceling hat was featured in The American Physical Society journal in 1925 to promote concentration and enhance work productivity. While the noise-canceling hat might be an ideal solution for achieving absolute focus, for those with claustrophobia, it's likely a prop straight out of a horror movie.
