With an exceptionally developed public transportation system, you can effortlessly choose suitable means of transportation for your journey exploring Taiwan.
Some prevalent modes of transportation in Taiwan:
- Metro Rapid Transit (MRT) (Metro Rapid Transit): Operating from 06:00 to 24:00, it has 5 lines represented by 5 colors: Red (Tamsu-Xinyi Line), Green (Songshan – Xindian Line), Blue (Bannan Line), Yellow (Zhonghe-Xinlu Line), and Brown (Wenhu Line). Ticket prices range from 20TWD - 65TWD (15,000đ - 50,000đ). Tickets can be purchased per ride or paid with the Easy Card.
- Bus: Operating from 05:00 to 24:00, inner-city fares start from 10TWD (8,000đ), depending on your departure location. Tickets can be purchased per ride or paid with the Easy Card.
- Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR): A fast-moving train with speeds up to 300km/h, saving time but relatively expensive. THSR ticket prices vary by route and seat class, starting from 35TWD.
- Train: Slow-moving, time-consuming transportation. There are two types: inter-city trains between major cities and local trains that stop at many stations along the route. Ticket prices vary depending on the route.
- Taxi: Yellow-colored cars with a high density in major cities. Taxis in Taiwan are relatively expensive, with an approximate cost of 130TWD (99,000đ) for a 4km daytime trip in Taipei. Additional fees may apply for extra luggage or nighttime rides.
- Ubike: Rental bikes with different fee structures based on rental duration. Payments can be made with an Easy Card or Visa card:
- Under 4 hours: 10TWD (approximately 8,000đ)/30 minutes
- From 4 – 8 hours: 20TWD (approximately 16,000đ)/30 minutes
- After 8 hours: 40TWD (approximately 32,000đ)/30 minutes.
Note: If you use the Easy Card and start your journey from New Taipei City, you will enjoy the first 30 minutes for free.
- Uber: Suitable for group travel, sharing the cost will be more economical.
