Even during VCS Summer 2022, there was a case where GAM Esports players, after winning the championship, had to wait for a while, travel a long distance to receive the cup. Levi himself affirmed that emotions have worn out due to such off-field issues.
After a long period of following players through screens, Vietnamese LMHT fans probably also greatly desire to immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the arena. However, this is currently only stopping at the level of anticipation from the audience for the region's largest tournament.
Unexpected New Elements
In recent seasons, VCS has yet to unveil any promising new faces to replace the old guard. While EGO was once seen as a potential successor to Levi, he has encountered backstage troubles. No Top Laner has truly stood out like Kiaya or Zeros have. Meanwhile, Mid Laners remain familiar names such as Artifact, Kati, or Dia1. Only the ADC role boasts promising talents like Shogun, Sty1e, or Artemis, but they are still too few.
But in VCS Spring 2023, audiences will witness the return of Team Flash and the debut of the new team, MGN Box Esports. Additionally, GAM's lineup has changed, while SGB and SE will undoubtedly strive harder than last year to chase titles. Fans can expect new factors to bring surprises to this tournament.
Associated events at tournaments
At major tournaments like LCK or LPL, there are always accompanying events to serve the community of fans. Examples include Media Days for teams to interact with the media and fans, or fan meetings with top teams. These elements demonstrate professionalism and standardization in organizing Esports events in general and LoL specifically.
It's highly likely that in the future, these aspects will also be applied to VCS. However, as of now, audiences still have no information about these events.
Drama is indispensable
One of the defining factors of VCS, albeit in a potentially negative direction, is drama. In fact, even major tournaments considered the epitome of professionalism like LCK or LPL are fraught with controversies. Thus, Vietnamese LoL fans always eagerly anticipate any hint of drama surrounding VCS.
With Riot's direct management following the re-release of LoL in Vietnam, similar incidents like the Zeros case or the alleged salary debt of GAM will likely be promptly and thoroughly resolved in the future. While sideline controversies are undesirable, they undoubtedly contribute to the colorful tapestry of VCS.
