Nokia X software platform is the operating system used on Nokia's X series smartphones. Essentially, it's based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but customized by Nokia from interface to functionality.

Regarding features: as it's a combination and customization of both android and windows phone operating systems, devices using this platform can install android apps in .APK format from memory card and exclusive apps from Nokia (HERE Maps, MixRadio) and Microsoft (Skype, Outlook, OneDrive, Bing, etc.). This platform also supports various payment features supported by Nokia including in-app payment, operator billing, and credit card payment.
Nokia X platform 2.0 is an upgrade from Nokia X software platform, bringing some standout features such as: multitasking screen addition, Nokia Store update, and additional app installations including Outlook.com, OneDrive, and OneNote.
New features in the system update include:
- Improved user interaction support with multitasking screen addition.
- Quick access to email, calendar, or notes with Outlook.com and OneNote app suite.
- Updating Nokia Store makes it easier for users to find the apps they want to install. Moreover, after upgrading to the new version, Nokia Store will be more compatible with third-party stores.
- Introducing a new Widget scroll bar, adding features like rejecting calls via messages, searching contacts directly in the speed dial. The phonebook will be automatically backed up to OneDrive, preventing accidental deletion of contacts in the phone or SIM.
