(Motherland) - This 'Pharaoh' egg has been forgotten for 20 years and its transformation is unbelievable.
A Chinese woman shared on social media the image of an egg turned red like a ruby after being forgotten for 20 years, attracting attention and awe from many netizens, according to the South China Morning Post.
Ms. Pho, from Tien Nam city, Shandong province, China, sees the egg as a rare fossil, and some even liken it to a 'Pharaoh egg.'
Ms. Pho recently posted online: When she was in elementary school in 2003, while shopping with her mother, she demanded to buy a peculiar small egg because she found it cute. The next day, her mother boiled the egg for her breakfast, but she forgot it.

Ms. Pho said that at that time, she put the egg in the side pocket of her school bag. About 2-3 days later, she remembered, but afraid that the boiled egg had gone bad, she neither dared to eat it nor throw it away. So she decided to put it in the refrigerator compartment. After 2 months, her mother found the egg in the corner of the refrigerator and discovered that it had shrunk, smaller than its original size, and had a texture like a plastic egg, with a color somewhat resembling a salted egg. When placed under a light, it emitted a faint red glow.
Intrigued by its fascinating appearance, Mrs. Pho secretly kept this egg, storing it in a ring box inside the cabinet. Thus, the flavorful egg remained safe in the cabinet for 20 years, until its owner recently remembered it while tidying up the house.
Mrs. Pho was thrilled, hastily taking a photo to post on social media. She also emphasized that when she bought the egg, it looked no different from other ordinary eggs.
The post has attracted widespread attention and interest from the public. Most people feel surprised and find Mrs. Pho's experience truly bizarre. At the same time, they are curious about why Mrs. Pho's 20-year-old boiled egg did not spoil but instead had a peculiar texture and color resembling a precious gem.

Many netizens have exclaimed in surprise, saying 'time turns the egg into a pink pearl,' 'the Pharaoh of the egg world,' 'this egg has turned to stone,' 'Such a long time, the egg should have rotted, but this is truly strange'... One person even joked, 'If I boil some eggs now, will I become a collector of pink pearls in 20 years?'

Responding to the netizens' questions, Mrs. Pho suggested that the egg's change in color could be due to the cold dry winter conditions in her area. She also mentioned that the egg might have turned red in the early days because it was winter, and the weather was very dry and cold.
On this matter, Mr. Dang Hoc Kien, a professor at the School of Life Sciences at Hohai University in China's Hubei Province, stated: Unusual small eggs are often called 'ghost eggs,' which are essentially eggs that haven't fully developed laid by hens. They usually only contain egg whites and no yolk. However, the reason why the eggs have such a peculiar red color and shriveled appearance remains unexplained by experts.
