What does isolated elements mean? Provide an example
I. What is the concept of Isolated Elements?
- Isolated elements are components that exist outside the basic structure of a sentence (beyond the subject, predicate, adverbial phrases, etc.) and do not participate in expressing the action within the sentence.
- There are 4 types of isolated elements:
+ Elements of emotional state.
+ Elements of exclamations.
+ Elements of calling and response.
+ Elements of side notes.

II. Isolated Elements:
1. Elements of Emotional State:
- Function: Elements of emotional state are used to express the speaker's perspective on the event mentioned in the sentence.
- Example:
+ Seems like he/she is feeling down.
+ Since it's the weekend, probably I'll get to sleep in.
2. Elements of Exclamations:
- Function: Elements of exclamations are used to reveal the speaker's emotions (joy, sadness, happiness, anger, etc.).
- Example:
+ Oh! So it's already the new year, time flies.
+ Forgot my notebook again, oh my.
3. Elements of Calling and Response:
- Function: Calling and response elements are used to establish or maintain communication, helping us understand the relationship between the caller and the responder.
- Example:
+ Hey Mom, what's cooking today?
+ Hey, remember to pick me up tomorrow for school.
4. Elements of Side Notes:
- Function: Used to provide additional details to the main content of the sentence.
- Example: Little Thu, the main character in the short story 'The Ivory Comb', is a strong, bold girl who deeply loves her father.
