Introduction to Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang
Before delving into the depths of the Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House, let's understand who Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang was. What were his contributions to the country? Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang was born in 1876 in Thanh Binh village, Ha Dong district, Thang Binh prefecture (now Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam province). He was a prominent revolutionary figure who attained a doctoral degree in 1904.

After obtaining his doctoral degree, he became a leader of the Duy Tan movement in the Central region in 1908. Shortly after, he was exiled to Con Dao by the French colonialists for 13 years. In 1926, he was elected as a representative with the position of Director of the Central Assembly.
The Revolutionary Activities of Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang
Throughout his 3 years at the Assembly, he steadfastly fought on the political stage against the French Resident General. Eventually, he resigned from his position.
In 1927, Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang founded the Tieng Dan newspaper printing factory. During this period, he served as the editor-in-chief in Hue until 1943 when the newspaper was completely shut down.
After the August Revolution in 1945, Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang was appointed as the Minister of the Interior. In 1946, when President Ho Chi Minh negotiated in France, Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang was nominated for the position of President of Vietnam.
A year later, Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang passed away in Quang Ngai during an inspection tour of the Central region. According to his will, he wished to be buried at the peak of Thien An Mountain - the most famous scenic spot in Quang Ngai province.
Although he has departed, the talent, morality, and patriotism of Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang are still praised and cherished by people. The people of Quang Nam often affectionately call him Uncle Huynh.
On December 27, 2021, to express gratitude and affirm the contributions of Mr. Huynh to the Motherland, the President awarded him the prestigious Golden Star Order.
On December 21, 1990, the Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House was officially recognized as a national cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture - Information.

The Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House is located within a spacious compound of about 4000m2 in Tien Phuoc district. This is the house built by Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang's father in 1896. Constructed in the classic three-compartment architectural style on an area of 90m2, the house has a cool and shady atmosphere, surrounded by lush greenery. In front of the house is an endless rice field, with majestic mountains in the background.
Looking from the outside, Mr. Huynh's memorial house appears similar to any other house. However, the path leading to the house is paved with winding bricks. Along the pathway are two rows of towering areca palms interspersed with lush green tea bushes, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere.

Inspired by the distinctive architecture of Quang Nam, the house is meticulously designed with exquisite patterns. Most notably, the wooden frames are intricately carved from jackfruit wood by the skilled hands of Kim Bong carpenters from Hoi An village.
The main hall is where ancestors and Mr. Huynh are worshiped. Mr. Huynh's altar is arranged lower than the ancestor altar with two exquisitely carved couplets. This is a special gift given by Mr. Huynh's students when he obtained his doctoral degree. On the right side of the hall is the family's bedroom, and on the left is the family's dining room.
Not only serving as a repository of documents about Mr. Huynh's life, Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House also becomes a preserved site of his working space during his lifetime. Inside the house, there is an exhibition area displaying items closely associated with his life. These include glasses, boxes, clocks, shoes, and the Tieng Dan newspaper.
