What's Apple Arcade all about?
Apple Arcade is a game subscription service for Apple's mobile and Mac devices, offering users access to exclusive games created specifically for the service. Think of it as a 'Netflix for games,' providing subscribers with exclusive content. Apple claims to have meticulously curated the games to deliver the best experiences. Additionally, all games support offline play, so you don't need a constant internet connection.
For developers who opt out of Apple Arcade, they'll continue releasing games on the App Store as usual. Apple Arcade is simply an additional game subscription where you can access exclusive titles.
What games are available on Apple Arcade?
Currently, Apple Arcade offers over 100 new and exclusive games developed in collaboration with various game developers. The service doesn't include any games already available on the Apple Store. Additionally, all Apple Arcade games do not feature in-app purchases, so the monthly subscription is the only expense you'll incur.
Some notable Arcade games include Frogger in Toy Town, Lego Arthouse, Pac-Man Porty Royale, Rayman Mini, Sonic Racing, and more.
On which devices can Apple Arcade be played?
Apple has stated that Arcade will be supported on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It also supports Handoff, allowing you to seamlessly continue playing where you left off even when switching devices. However, the subscription is currently only available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. There's no information yet on when it will be released on Mac.
Can controllers be used?
It's common knowledge that gaming with a controller offers a vastly different experience, which is why we've seen the continuous development of Dualshock (Playstation) and Xbox One controllers. Apple hasn't announced specific controllers for Apple Arcade, but iOS now supports wireless connection for Dualshock and Xbox One controllers. Thus, you can use these controllers on games that support MFi Bluetooth controllers.
How much does Arcade cost?
The subscription service is priced at 119,000 VND per month, with a one-month free trial. This price point is lower than Xbox Games Pass and PS Now. Apple Arcade's Family Sharing plan allows you to share your subscription with up to five family members at no extra cost.
How to subscribe?
There's no dedicated app for Apple Arcade. In iOS 14, it's accessed through the App Store. You'll find the Arcade tab at the bottom menu bar. You'll see a 'Start Playing' button. As mentioned earlier, the first month is free, after which you'll be charged 119,000 VND per month.
After subscribing, the Arcade section of the App Store will display all available games. To download a game, simply tap on it, then Get. The game icon will also appear on the home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
