In Chrome 89 and earlier versions, when you enter a URL in Chrome's address bar (Omnibox), the browser first pings the HTTP version (non-secure) of the website before redirecting users to the HTTPS (secure) version. With Google's latest update, Chrome 90 will load websites via the HTTPS protocol instead of the insecure protocol as before.
You might be aware that Google Chrome has begun blocking downloads of files distributed via HTTP on HTTPS pages. Currently, only Google Chrome automatically loads URLs via the HTTPS protocol, and it's still uncertain whether this feature will be available on other Chromium-based browsers like Edge.

List of new features in the Chrome 90 update:
1. Support for AV1 codec
AV1 is an open-source codec designed to enable better video transmission quality across various formats and platforms. Firefox has embraced AV1, and Google Chrome also features it in the latest update.
In addition to enhancing video quality, AV1 also reduces data usage, especially on mobile devices (Android and iOS) or when you have a slow internet connection.
AV1 isn't just about improving online streaming quality. In theory, this feature could provide better compression efficiency and screen sharing on services like Discord and web-based Microsoft Teams.
However, AV1 support on Chrome alone isn't sufficient to improve image quality. Content also needs to be encoded in AV1 format on websites instead of H.264 or other formats.
2. Customizing Chrome Window Titles
Google Chrome introduces a new window management feature, making it easier for users to differentiate and switch between windows. To access this feature, open Chrome, click on the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the screen, and select More tools > Name window.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the browser window to access the feature. Chrome 90 will remember the names you've assigned to windows, restoring them when you reopen the browser or in case of a sudden crash. This feature will also be available on Microsoft Edge with version 90.
