As usual, there are two types of updates for both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, as well as their server updates: the monthly rollup release, which is automatically installed, and the security update, which you need to manually install.
Starting with Windows 8.1, the monthly update named KB5000848 brings the following changes:
- Addresses an issue where non-domain devices in the same forest do not receive Kerberos Service Ticket from Active Directory DC.
- Resolves the increase in security vulnerability recorded in CVE-2021-1640 related to print commands sent to 'FILE:' ports.

Additionally, there's still an unresolved issue where certain operations, such as renaming files or folders on Cluster Shared Volume (CSV), may fail with error 'STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)'. This occurs when performing the operation on the CSV Owner Node from a non-administrator privileged process.
To temporarily address this issue, you can follow one of the two methods below:
- Perform the operation from an administrator privileged process.
- Perform the operation from a node without CSV ownership rights.
Microsoft is actively working on a solution and will provide an update in the upcoming release.
Regarding security update KB5000853, it includes bug fixes similar to those in the monthly rollup update and still has the same unresolved issue mentioned above.

For Windows 7, you'll need to pay for extended security updates to receive any updates at this time. The Patch Tuesday update for Windows 7 also has the same release notes as Windows 8.1.
