WinRAR is a file compression and extraction tool that supports various formats such as RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, and Z. The software consistently generates smaller archive files compared to competitors in the same field, helping save storage space and transmission costs. WinRAR provides you with the benefit of strong archive encryption using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a 128-bit key. It supports archive files up to 8.589 billion gigabytes. With recovery volumes and records, you can recreate damaged archive documents physically.

New Features in WinRAR 5.90 Beta 1 Update
1. Additions and Enhancements
- RAR file compression speed has been improved for CPUs with 16 cores and above.
- The Fastest method (equivalent to the -m1 command) often achieves higher compression ratios for data types capable of high compression when creating RAR5 compressed files.
- Maximum number of threads used has been increased from 32 to 64. The -mt command-line switch toggles values from 1 to 64.
- The Multithreading parameter on the General page of WinRAR settings has been replaced with a Thread input field. Here, you can specify the desired number of CPU threads, with values from 1 to the maximum available CPU units.
- WinRAR displays the compressed and uncompressed folder sizes when browsing archive contents. The Total folders field is added to the list of archive parameters. It is displayed using the WinRAR Info command. A similar field is added to the Archive page in the properties of stored items in Windows Explorer.
- A progress bar and Cancel button are included in the window if reading archive contents takes a significant amount of time. This can be useful for compression formats with slower content access, such as tar.gz and tar.bz2.
- The compression and decompression progress windows, as well as progress windows for some other commands, can be resized.
- Repair performance for RAR5 compressed files with recovery records and no data movement has been improved. It was faulty in WinRAR version 5.80 and has now been restored to its original level.
- Password prompt is not issued when performing repair based on recovery record for RAR5 compressed files with encrypted file names. This command can be executed without providing a password.
- If the destination folder does not exist in the Convert archives command, WinRAR will attempt to create it. Previous versions were unable to create converted compressed documents in a non-existent target folder.
2. Bug Fixes
- The Repair command may incorrectly display the message Recovery record is corrupt when processing a compressed file with a valid recovery record. This message did not prevent further repair operations.
- If the quick information option is set to Do not add in the default compression configuration and this configuration is loaded by some commands or dialogs, WinRAR has skipped opening quick information when browsing the contents of a RAR compressed file. For example, this happened after opening the storage or password dialogs.
- Copy shortcut Ctrl + C does not function in the compression window.
- If the Put each file to separate archive and Archives in subfolders options are set, WinRAR ignores the destination path specified in the file name field.
