Evo, as named by Intel, represents the certification of this standard, stemming from the Athena project announced at CES 2019. Intel Evo can be seen as an upgrade version of the previous Athena project.

Intel Evo isn't just a single standard; it's not enough to meet just one of the criteria set forth. These laptops must meet all conditions to be certified as 'Intel Evo Standard.' The Intel Evo standard includes:

• Processors from Intel Core i5 Gen 11 upwards must feature Intel Iris Xe Graphics integrated cards.
• Boot-up time from 'Sleep' mode must be less than 1 second.
• Integration of fast charging technology, achieving 4 hours of usage with just 30 minutes of charging.
• Battery life must reach 9 hours for laptops equipped with Full HD displays, with a screen brightness of at least 250 nits, for tasks like web browsing, video streaming, music playback, and daily office tasks.
• Equipped with Wifi 6 connectivity, supporting Thunderbolt 4.

Overall, laptops meeting the Intel Evo standards will feature sleek designs, often premium models with aesthetic value. Additionally, the performance of these machines is robust, catering well to most usage needs.

What's new with Intel Evo 2022?

Recently, Intel unveiled a new processor lineup called Intel Core Gen 12. This presents an opportunity for new updates on the Intel Evo platform for laptops and other compact devices. Alongside this release, many products have been designed to utilize the Intel Core Gen 12 processors, such as the H, U, and P series from the company, expected to hit the market in the first half of 2022.

In addition to some factors that the Intel Evo standard has previously provided, such as sensitivity, actual battery life, instant boot feature, or fast charging, ... This time, Intel Evo 2022 adds more factors to the system, known as 'Intelligent collaboration,' which is considered a new technical specification for this standard version. The intelligent collaboration feature on Intel Evo 2022 ensures users experience the best teamwork, such as when using online meeting applications on PC.

Additionally, thanks to AI-based background noise reduction technology, integration of Intel Wifi 6, Intel Connectivity Performance Suite, as well as AI-enhanced image effects speeding up processing. Additionally, fast charging technology is also a pretty cool feature. Currently, we usually only see this technology on smartphones, but now Intel is bringing it to its Intel Evo standard laptops. In my opinion, in some urgent special cases, this could be an extremely useful feature.

Especially in the current pandemic situation, where online learning and working from home become more common, a laptop meeting the Intel Evo 2022 standard will be a choice you should seriously consider.

Who needs laptops certified with Intel Evo?

Although the standards of Intel Evo bring many benefits to users, these machines may not necessarily be suitable and perform well for everyone.

With criteria like 9-hour battery life, fast charging support, and equipped with Tiger Lake, we can easily recognize that these are standards specifically for Ultrabook laptops, catering to the needs of frequent travelers requiring long battery life and sufficient performance to meet everyday usage needs.

Overall, laptops meeting the Intel Evo standard focus more on mobility but still have enough power to handle various tasks. Especially for the Intel Evo 2022 standard, these laptops will be even more suitable and perform well for office users or students in today's online learning and working environment. Conversely, for those who need a gaming laptop or workstation with extremely powerful performance, I don't think you need to care about the Intel Evo standard.
