Scheduled from April 27th to May 2nd, 2018, the 10th edition of Hue Festival themed “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development, Hue – A Destination of Five Heritages” is poised to be an ideal rendezvous for travelers, featuring numerous exceptional artistic programs.
What Makes Hue Festival 2018 Stand Out?
By participating in the Festival, visitors will have the chance to explore, visit, and experience the unique values of 5 UNESCO-recognized heritages such as: the Complex of Hue Monuments (1993), Royal Court Music of Hue (2003), Nguyen Dynasty Woodblocks (2009), Nguyen Dynasty Imperial Records (2014), poetry on Hue Royal Architecture (2016), and a non-tangible cultural heritage newly recognized by UNESCO in December 2017, the art of Bai Choi.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dung – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue, Head of the Organizing Committee, the special point of this year's Festival lies in the large-scale artistic programs aimed at introducing to domestic and international audiences the quintessence of traditional cultural and artistic values and the Hue royal court.
Among them, notable events include the National Văn singing and Chầu văn singing festival from April 26th – 28th and the “Imperial Offering” program held on April 28th and 30th. This program is elaborately staged with a sophisticated combination of singing, dancing, performance, recitation, music, sound effects, lighting, technical fireworks, and many converging elements in stage art.
In addition, the event also includes various community cultural activities such as festivals, culinary festivals, numerous exhibitions with different themes, or artistic performances by music groups and clubs on pedestrian streets.
“Festival Hue 2018 is the most prominent cultural and tourism event of the locality, so besides cultural activities, we also focus on introducing Hue cuisine. As everyone knows, Vietnam has over 2700 dishes, while Hue alone has up to 1700 dishes, among which the most famous are royal dishes and vegetarian dishes,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Dung.
According to information from the Organizing Committee, this year's Festival also gathers the participation of over 20 international art troupes from countries such as South Korea, Israel, Mongolia, Japan, Thailand, China, England, France, and Morocco…
On this occasion, Hue also expands many community tours and ecotourism routes to attract tourists. Tourists will experience tours to explore traditional craft villages making conical hats, incense, fishing nets… or visit famous landscapes such as Lang Co Bay, Tam Giang Lagoon, A Luoi highland tourism…
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Director of Thua Thien Hue Province Department of Tourism, estimated that there will be about 250,000 - 300,000 visitors to Hue during the 6-day Festival. Therefore, Hue is urgently completing preparations to welcome guests with over 11,000 rooms from nearly 600 accommodation establishments and nearly 100 homestay points in the city area. In addition, a travel app on smartphones has also been developed to help tourists book rooms and easily look up information.
With a series of outstanding activities, Festival Hue 2018 promises to be a remarkable and impressive festival with many new features. This is also a program associated with many significant historical and cultural events of the province such as: commemorating 230 years since Nguyen Hue ascended to the throne, 50 years of the general uprising of the Mau Than Spring, 25 years since the Complex of Hue Monuments was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage, and 15 years since Hue court music was recognized as a masterpiece of intangible and oral heritage of humanity.
