Lastly, both rambutan ri6 and monthong rambutan are imported from foreign countries and then extensively cultivated and farmed by the locals. Specifically, rambutan ri6 is imported from Cambodia, while monthong rambutan is imported from Thailand.

- Rambutan Ri6 was initially cultivated in Long Hồ – Vĩnh Long and later propagated to other provinces such as Cái Mơn, Bến Tre.
- Monthong Rambutan is predominantly grown in the Mekong Delta and Southeastern regions of Vietnam.
External Appearance
Based on the external appearance differences, buyers can easily distinguish between Rambutan Ri6 and Monthong Rambutan.
- Rambutan Ri6 has an oval shape, a narrow base, and thin, yellow-green peel, with an average weight of 2 – 3 kg per fruit.
- Monthong Rambutan has an egg or rectangular shape with spike thickness ranging from 1.25 cm, and a stem length of 5 – 8 cm.
Flavor Profile
As mentioned earlier, both Rambutan Ri6 and Monthong Rambutan have enticing flavors, but their distinctive aromas set them apart.
- Rambutan Ri6 features a rich aroma, thick flesh, small seeds, and a sweet, moderately fatty taste.
- Monthong Rambutan has very thick flesh with a sweet, mild taste, perfectly balanced in richness. If you prefer a less bitter taste, Monthong Rambutan is the ideal choice. Moreover, this rambutan variety has a long shelf life while preserving its flavor almost as if it were just ripened. The aroma of Monthong Rambutan is not as strong as Rambutan Ri6; it has a subtle yet alluring fragrance.
