.CHM is the file extension of a type of file not widely known but commonly used in computers. Unlike the more popular PDF files opened with Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader, .CHM is the default format on Windows. Speaking of popularity, Foxit Reader with the PDF format is more commonly used. However, delving deeper into this file format and learning how to read .CHM files reveals many interesting aspects about it.
1. Pros and cons of .CHM files
Advantages:
.chm files have a smaller file size compared to other formats, making them compact and lightweight.
Files are organized in a tree-like folder structure, providing a visual and easy-to-follow layout.
When copied to another computer, reading .chm files can smoothly function on computers with operating systems from Windows 98 onwards.
Drawbacks:
There's a scarcity of extensions and support tools, and the available software support is quite limited.
Modern office tools cannot generate .chm files; specialized tools are required for file creation.
