How many types of Macbook computers are there?
When it comes to MacBooks, there are two main lines to consider: MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The first one, which most users are familiar with, is the MacBook Air. It can be seen as Apple's most affordable laptop line, known for its slim and lightweight design, as well as reliable performance. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed when I first used a MacBook Air because of its sleek design.

On the other hand, the MacBook Pro is a laptop line with more powerful performance, sharper display, and additional connectivity ports compared to the MacBook Air. For me, the MacBook Pro is a product that combines elegance in design with powerful performance while maintaining essential portability.

In general, each MacBook line is suitable for different types of users, but not everyone knows how to choose the right model for themselves. Join us in the next part of the article to understand better which MacBook line suits you.
Which MacBook should we buy?
If you're someone who frequently travels for work and needs a highly portable device, or if you're looking for a MacBook with an affordable price, attractive design, and performance capable of handling daily tasks like web browsing, Office tools, etc., then the MacBook Air is the right choice for you.

Besides basic tasks, if you need to perform graphic tasks like editing videos or images with Photoshop, Lightroom, it's not a problem with MacBook Air. However, I recommend choosing the MacBook Air with the highest storage capacity to ensure uninterrupted storage and smoother device operation.

If you need a MacBook with a more premium design, powerful performance, sharp display, and budget is not an issue for you, then MacBook Pro models will certainly suit you.

Moreover, if your profession involves being a designer, photographer, filmmaker, and requires heavy usage of relatively demanding software, then MacBook Pro is definitely an excellent choice.
So what should you consider when buying a MacBook?
If you're buying a new MacBook, I think the process is quite simple. You just need to check if the information provided by the retailer matches the product you intend to purchase. Some key points to pay attention to include: the machine code for which market it's intended for (you can check this using the code outside the box, and the current code for Vietnam is SA), checking the serial number for warranty purposes, and ensuring the information provided about the machine is accurate.

Additionally, when you purchase a Mac computer, you can't upgrade the internal hard drive or SSD because Apple simply doesn't allow it. SSDs in most new MacBook models are soldered directly onto the motherboard, so you can't remove and replace them, nor are there slots for you to install third-party SSDs.

Therefore, when buying a Mac, you should prepare to buy the right storage capacity that you think is sufficient for you, typically 256GB or 512GB (128GB might run out quickly after a few years of use). If you don't have extra financial resources, then using an external SSD is not a bad idea. However, in my opinion, external drives should only be used for data transfer between devices or for backup purposes, not for everyday use as it can be cumbersome.

Not only SSDs, but the RAM of a MacBook is also soldered onto the motherboard, so once you buy the machine, there's no way to upgrade the RAM. Therefore, from the beginning, choose a sufficiently large capacity. The basic configuration of most MacBook models nowadays is 8GB, which is enough for work, entertainment, and even some technical tasks. But if possible, upgrade the RAM to 16GB for comfortable use.
What should you check when buying a used MacBook?
If you're buying a used MacBook, in addition to the information mentioned above, you also need to pay attention to whether the used or refurbished MacBook has any swapped components. Always ask for the serial number beforehand. Here are some main points to consider when buying a used MacBook:
- Do not buy any MacBook that is locked, even if the seller promises to unlock it after full payment, as it could be a stolen device and the rightful owner may have remotely locked it.
- Check the exterior condition to see if the machine has any dents, dings, or scratches.

- Check the camera, mic, sensors, and keyboard backlight to see if they're working properly. You can test the sensors by enabling the 'Adjust keyboard brightness in low light' feature. Use your phone's flashlight to shine directly into the camera. If the sensor is working properly, the keyboard backlight will turn off.
- Inspect the screen for scratches, dead pixels, vertical lines, bright spots, water damage, peeling anti-glare coating, etc. After checking for visible damages, download four images with four colors - Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green. Open each image in full screen and check for any dead pixels.

- Check the keyboard – Touch Bar – Touch ID by typing a paragraph. Remember to test all function keys from F1 to F12, navigation keys, Touch ID, Touch Bar for any malfunction or damage.
- Inspect the TrackPad: Check the exterior for cracks or damage, run your fingers across the TrackPad to see if any area is unresponsive, test the hard click button at the bottom edge (for older trackpads) or perform a Force Click operation (for newer trackpads).

- Check the battery status, charging cycle in the system information.
- Inspect the speakers, headphone jack, and ports: play a song and listen through external speakers or headphones. Also, remember to check connections such as USB, charger, LAN cable, thunderbolt, USB-C, etc.

Use the Apple hardware test software to check for RAM errors, charger issues, motherboard faults, hardware malfunctions, etc. Before running the test, disconnect all peripherals, turn off the computer, hold down the D key to restart, choose a language, and press the arrow button to start the test.
