Looking good is great, but being together is what truly matters.
Graduation Photoshoots and the Art of Choosing What to Wear.
Amidst the sweltering days of May, amidst the buzzing of cicadas, in the final weeks of high school seniors or college seniors. Familiar scenes reminiscent of textbooks describing vibrant years. These days are as inevitable as life itself, reigniting the demand for graduation photoshoots and bringing forth numerous inquiries such as:
- What to Wear for Graduation Photos?
- What are your thoughts on current graduation fashion trends and services?
As I always say, fashion is created to serve human needs and help individuals express their personality. Therefore, we need to understand the significance of 'Graduation Photoshoots' leading to the attire needs for this event – so, let's break down the essence of 'Graduation'.

According to Wikipedia, 'Graduation' is “a compound noun with Sino-Vietnamese elements”. In Vietnamese dictionaries published by the Institute of Linguistics in 2006 and Sino-Nom dictionaries from the Information Technology Center of Thua Thien – Hue, 'Graduation' (Kỷ yếu) 纪要, 擿要, 摘录 is a noun meaning a collection of recorded notes, summarizing essential points.
Graduation is events or occurrences related to historical milestones, events in an individual's life, a group, or even a nation or ethnicity. However, at the current time, graduation is understood in a narrower sense as the cherished final memories of high school or college students with their teachers upon completing a certain academic course.
Here, we understand that Graduation has a broader meaning, and graduation (widely known today through popular search platforms as high school graduation, college graduation) is about preserving memories through photo collections. So where does fashion come into play?

From a personal perspective, I don't stress about what you need to wear or portray in graduation photos because the purpose of graduation is to preserve memories, important moments in one's life – as a student. I believe that period can be considered the happiest time, free from excessive worries about KPIs, deadlines, and future pressures. So I think 'Just have fun' is enough. Fashion - what's that at this time?
This is also a moment where you can collectively be creative for the last time before going your separate ways (class reunions, you know, probably some people will attend – the rest is anyone's guess). So even if you claim to be picky, there's nothing to nitpick about young people spending enjoyable time together, and 'Fashion' here doesn't carry much significance.
It's like 'Uniform' – 'Dress code' within a unified concept, and during that time, everyone enjoys each other's company. That's it, as long as those outfits are not too offensive or too old-fashioned for you, and don't go against current standards. Just let it flow naturally.

Fashion inherently carries a high degree of division and differentiation among people, classes, so I believe fashion shouldn't be heavily emphasized in graduation photoshoots. Students themselves have creatively preserved memories of their school days joyfully and innocently, often setting trends on social media.
As for graduation photoshoots (similar to American yearbooks), they adhere to certain traditional standards that have been maintained for a long time, and I think they should remain as such.

What we're discussing here is that many people creatively incorporate fashion-related content into these graduation purposes, which undermines the original purpose of preserving meaningful moments in one's life. Consequently, it loses its joy and connection. Then, standards for content and fashion come into play (because it's no longer keeping its original essence).

Therefore, students considering graduation photoshoots should view fashion as a seasoning to make those final moments of togetherness even richer, don't stress too much. It's great if it looks good, but it's also fine if it's just normal. Being together is what matters.
