WhatsApp has long been rumored to support multi-device functionality. This means you'll be able to log in and use WhatsApp on multiple devices simultaneously without the need for constant internet connectivity. This feature seems to be nearing completion as leaks of a public Preview build for beta testers suggest it's already present in the app's source code.
According to findings by WABetaInfo, a reliable WhatsApp information provider, the Facebook-owned company has started updating the linked devices section. The new user interface will roll out to some users. It's currently present within the WhatsApp Web feature of the app. However, in the coming weeks, we can expect WhatsApp to begin testing multi-device support in the beta version.
Once the feature becomes available, you'll see a new 'WhatsApp Web Beta' tab in the WhatsApp Web section on your mobile device. It 'no longer requires you to keep your phone' connected to the internet.
WABetaInfo reveals that multi-device support will function simultaneously with a maximum of 4 devices. This means you can log into your WhatsApp account on PC, web app, and other devices simultaneously. You can send messages even when your primary device lacks an Internet connection. Message history will automatically synchronize across all linked devices.
The Preview version also indicates that WhatsApp won't allow you to store, mute, or delete chats from the device in use concurrently during the beta testing phase. You also can't delete individual messages or make calls through the app on the computer. And if you didn't know, WhatsApp is also testing video and voice calling features through the desktop version at the moment.
Meanwhile, Telegram - WhatsApp's rival, has long provided the option to log into accounts on multiple devices simultaneously. This is one of the most requested features in the WhatsApp user community. It's still unclear when this capability will be rolled out.
