China is known for its strict censorship policies, limiting access to social media websites as well as Western platforms like Wikipedia, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and many Google services. Now, WhatsApp joins the list of platforms completely blocked in China, which used to have only partial restrictions.
The complete blocking of WhatsApp in China is hardly surprising. The reason is simple: WhatsApp is one of the messaging services that support end-to-end encryption, making it difficult, if not impossible, for the government to monitor user messages.
