WhatsApp is experimenting with a shortcut for 'read receipts' that applies to all app notifications. However, for certain development reasons, this feature is not yet available in the public beta version of WhatsApp.
However, users can now try and experience the completely new feature on the latest WhatsApp beta release on the Google Play Store. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp beta release 2.18.216 includes a new shortcut to mute notifications when the unread message count from a user or group exceeds 51 messages.

In general, the number 51 messages might not seem excessive for a user, especially when participating in group chats. Therefore, it would be better if WhatsApp allows users to customize and mute notifications for the unread message count.
