1. Devices excluded from iOS 17 updates
According to a 'reliable' source cited by Macrumours, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are rumored to cease support for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch first-generation iPad Pros, as well as the fifth-generation iPad.
If these rumors hold true, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will not be compatible with most devices running on A11 Bionic chips or newer. The only exceptions would be the sixth and seventh-generation iPads featuring the A10 Fusion chip, and the second-generation 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros with the A10X Fusion chip.
Devices equipped with A5 to A11 chips are affected by a bootrom security vulnerability that Apple cannot patch due to the read-only nature of the bootrom. Exploiting this vulnerability has allowed these devices to be permanently jailbroken across multiple iOS versions, enabling users to modify the iOS file system.
Last year, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 ceased support for several devices, including iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, the original iPhone SE, the final iPod touch, and second and fourth-generation iPad Airs.
