Utilize a tennis ball for massaging your feet and hips to achieve high relaxation and combat fatigue effectively.
Travel Insights: The Importance of Packing a Tennis Ball for Flights
When preparing luggage for a long journey, what comes to mind? Many think of a large suitcase filled with clothes, shoes, and a good book for in-flight reading.
However, according to Dr. Ali Ghoz, a consultant and orthopedic surgeon specializing in hips and knees at the London Orthopaedic Centre (UK), a tennis ball is a must-have travel companion.
Sitting in one place on a long flight can lead to swollen feet and an uncomfortable bloated feeling. Instead of bothering your travel companion for a foot massage or tiring yourself with ineffective self-massage, use tennis balls to alleviate discomfort and fatigue in areas like the lower back, hips, calves, and shoulders.
To alleviate pain or tension, travelers just need to place a tennis ball on the affected area. Use your hands to press and roll back and forth until you feel more comfortable.

According to Ali Ghoz, using a tennis ball for massaging while sitting on a plane helps enhance blood circulation to various body areas. You can use your hand to stroke the muscles from the ankles upward to facilitate this process. Occasionally, stand up and walk around the cabin a few times, drink some water. Booking a seat with legroom also proves highly effective in preventing fatigue.
Travelers should also note that if they have recently undergone foot surgery, they should wait at least 2 weeks before taking a short flight and 8 weeks before a long-haul flight.
