I've just made the decision to sell my Apple Watch Ultra and switch to Series 8. This comes after over a month of using the only Titan-based Apple Watch this year. I'm writing this article to share with you a different perspective because everyone around seems satisfied with the Apple Watch Ultra due to its battery life, large screen, unique new design, and the premium titanium material.1. 2. Strap Variety
For Apple Watch Ultra, the straps designed specifically for it, including Alpine, Ocean, and Trail, seem to best complement its rugged design, all optimized for heavy-duty sports activities. However, using old straps on Ultra didn't fit well, as they tended to be smaller. Additionally, old straps for AWU require a smaller size (or one hole smaller for Sport Band), but I prefer using straps sized to fit the wrist available only at the Apple Store, like Solo Loop or Braided Solo Loop. On the contrary, Apple Watch Series 8 can accommodate all types of straps made by Apple, fitting perfectly. Furthermore, I find the price of AWU straps at $99 for Alpine, Ocean, Trail to be quite high, despite the lack of special features in the straps.
3. Alignment with Personal Needs Returning to AWS8, the first sacrifice I noticed was battery life. With AWU, I could go 3-4 days depending on my activities. With AWS8, it's just over a day. For me, this isn't too bothersome because every night when I return home, I just place it on the dock without worrying about the battery percentage. I don't engage in activities like diving, mountain climbing, or long trail runs, so AWU wasn't really utilized for those purposes. Mostly, I run, occasionally swim, and most importantly, monitor my heart rate continuously (I have a heart condition), and AWS8 performs well in that regard. Additionally, when it comes to outfit coordination, AWS8 blends better with my attire for all activities: sports, outings, events, formal occasions. AWU felt a bit out of place when I wore a suit or blazer to events like that.
This is the first time I've sold a product with Apple's new design to return to a product with the old design 😁
