Windows 10 May 2020 Update (20H1) is the first major update of the Windows operating system this year and has started rolling out to some computers. With the May 2020 Update, Microsoft has also introduced improvements to Windows memory segmentation, aiming to reduce the overall memory usage of Win32 applications like Google Chrome.

Microsoft states that the May 2020 Update comes with a beneficial change called SegmentHeap, aiming to reduce memory usage, with web browsers like Chrome being one of the beneficiaries. This is a technical change available for developers and only works on Windows 10 version 2004 and above.
Microsoft has announced that they have modified the Chromium-based Edge browser to utilize the SegmentHeap value, with initial tests showing a 27% reduction in memory usage.
Google also embraces this idea and will implement it for Chrome. Chrome engineers note that adding the SegmentHeap entry to the browser's manifest will allow Windows 10 version 2004 to use segment heap instead of legacy heap. Google says, 'Experiments on computers opting into per-machine opting into per-machine heap segmentation for chrome.exe show that this could save hundreds of MB in the browser and utility processes within other processes on some machines. Actual results will vary, with the most efficiency seen on multi-core machines.'
Microsoft and Google have confirmed that real-world results may vary, meaning performance could be lower or higher than 27%, but this change is sure to reduce memory usage to some extent and provide a better experience for users.
Currently, it is unclear when these improvements will be implemented in Google Chrome with the Windows 10 2004 (May 2020 Update) release. You can explore Tips to Reduce RAM Usage When Opening Chrome on your computer quickly at this link.
