Going back to 2019, Microsoft initiated changes to the Search framework in Windows File Explorer, allowing users to search memory on OneDrive and local files simultaneously.

However, these changes from the software giant have significantly impacted Explorer's performance, even causing unresponsiveness in the search frame when users look for local files in certain cases.
With the recent changes in Windows 11 builds, users now have enhanced control over files in File Explorer. Specifically, a new entry in the Group Policy editor allows users to disable Office.com files in the operating system, and File Explorer will cease displaying cloud files in Quick Access view.
Disabling Office.com integration additionally prevents File Explorer from making web requests to Microsoft services for recent cloud file data retrieval. This helps minimize resource and background data consumption, improving the overall experience of Windows 11, making it smoother and more efficient.
Another intriguing point is that these changes also apply to the suggested Start Menu. When the feature is disabled, the Start Menu will cease loading Office documents.
Upcoming changes on File Explorer in Windows 11
In previous reports, both Windows 11 File Explorer and context menu (or right-click menu) faced operational glitches, resulting in slower responsiveness. This adversely affected the user experience.
On Microsoft's part, they quickly implemented changes to how the context menu operates by 'prioritizing' the most commonly used options. Additionally, they added further bug fixes for File Explorer's slow opening, addressing instances where users noticed a delay of 1/2 second.
In addition to bug fixes, the tech giant Microsoft introduced new shortcuts allowing users to quickly copy the path of a file or folder. Users only need to right-click on any file or folder and select Copy as path to copy the path.
