Following the official release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Microsoft decided to introduce new valuable features for IT admins.
Device Health leverages remote data to provide in-depth insights for detecting and resolving issues that impact end-users without requiring additional infrastructure. Key features of Device Health include:
- Identify regularly hung or faulty devices that need replacement or repair.
- Identify drivers as the cause of errors, suggest more stable versions to reduce device downtime.
- Notify about incorrect Windows Information Protection configurations, send notifications to end users.
- Due to the cloud computing infrastructure using Windows 10 telemetry, there is no need to set up a new infrastructure for Device Health usage.
Utilize Device Health in Windows Analytics
Although Windows Analytics Device Health is now available to all users, to use Device Health, you must first purchase one of the licenses below for the device you want to monitor:
- Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education registered on the device with Software Assurance.
- Windows 10 Enterprise E3 or E5 registered on each device or user (including Microsoft 365 F1, E3, or E5).
- Windows 10 Education A3 or A5 (including Microsoft 365 Education A3 or A5).
- Windows VDA E3 or E5 registered on each device or user.
As per Microsoft's explanation, users do not need to install Windows 10 Enterprise on devices; they only require the appropriate licenses for Device Health usage.
How does Device Health operate?
Windows Analytics Device Health is now available to all users.
The process of streaming data from your computer to Windows servers is summarized in the following 5 steps:
Step 1: Your computer transmits data remotely to Microsoft's data center.
Step 2:Microsoft Telemetry Service analyzes the remote data.
Step 3: Subsequently, remote data within the Microsoft Telemetry Service is transferred to OMS.
Step 4: Now remote data is available within Device Health.
Step 5: You can actively monitor issues in Device Health on your device.
An important note is that Windows Analytics Device Health on your computer sends enhanced Windows diagnostic data to Microsoft's servers for analysis.
If using the Creators Update version, you will find a new policy available: “Limit enhanced diagnostic data to the minimum required by Windows Analytics.”
Windows Analytics Device Health is now available to all users, just one of the myriad features that Microsoft updates for users of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
