In June, Google revealed its collaboration with Parallels to bring Windows applications to Chrome OS, providing no additional information. Now, Parallels has expanded upon that announcement, explaining that you will be able to run a full Windows virtual machine on your Chrome OS computer without needing an internet connection. Moreover, as a virtualization solution, you won't need dual booting.

According to Nick Dobrovolsiky, Vice President of Technical and Customer Support at Parallels: 'Parallels Desktop for Chromebook Enterprise will assist IT administrators in creating Windows virtual machines on Chromebooks more effortlessly and providing fully-featured Windows applications that employees require. Additionally, administrators will be able to easily manage their company's Windows Image deployment activities, providing and automatically delivering them to their employees. These virtual machines are fully capable of installing Windows; admins can install applications, manage them remotely, and support users with familiar tools, similar to what they typically do with Windows PCs.'
However, currently, it is limited to Chrome OS Enterprise, meaning this feature is exclusively for enterprise customers. It appears that Parallels is becoming Google's virtualization solution for Chrome OS, similar to how Microsoft has Hyper-V on Windows 10. At some points, this partner relationship may be expanded to include support for emulators, used in software development and various other fields.
Parallels for Chromebook Enterprise will be available to enterprise customers this autumn. The primary objective is to provide comprehensive Windows application capabilities for enterprises. Ultimately, as highlighted in the blog post, every enterprise requires some types of Windows applications for use in their work.
