The situation in the LCS region is truly challenging.
As known, the LCS region has become a hotspot in the world of League of Legends (LoL) lately. After Riot enforced rules requiring teams to disband their youth squads, the protests from teams here have put the LCS tournament at risk of not following the predetermined schedule. However, the situation could be more severe.

To ensure the Summer 2023 LCS tournament proceeds as planned, Riot managing this region alongside the organizing committee confirms that players at every rank in League of Legends (LoL), if interested, can register to compete for teams. Team selections will be handled by the teams themselves. All aimed at keeping LCS operational during this period.

This was confirmed by Travis Gafford - a highly reputable journalist in the Western LoL community - in a recent broadcast with some colleagues. Gafford stated: 'They (Riot) have decided to remove all rank requirements for professional play in the LCS. So currently, whatever rank you are, wherever you are, as long as you can register, you can compete. Even I could become a pro player if I register.

While Gafford's sharing has not been officially recognized by Riot, it can be understood that even players at low ranks like Bronze can register to compete and may be recruited. Of course, teams will have their selection process (if situations lead to such resolution), but clearly, this will only lead the LCS to decline further.
Moreover, this is undoubtedly affecting the mentality of the players, regardless of whether everything is resolved or not. Compared to the other three regions in the group of four major regions (Majors), LCS is considered the weakest. For a long time now, they have not produced any standout native players. Names like Berserker and EMENES are all imports. The exception being jojopyun, who shone brightly but even he didn't perform well in the past Spring Split.

The LCS tournament may still proceed, and there may still be regional representatives at the 2023 World Championship Finals. But this region is in crisis and surely they cannot recover on a whim.
