Icy Dock introduces the CP130, a revolutionary device that allows users to utilize M.2 NVMe SSDs for digital cameras via CFExpress Type B slots. If you've ever considered a solution like CP130 from Icy Dock, this is definitely a meeting of great ideas, as I don't think many people would choose it over a traditional high-speed CFExpress card.
The CP130 measures 55 x 130 x 20 mm, weighs about 300 grams, and features durable black plastic construction. It has a CFExpress Type B slot on one end and allows for the attachment of up to 22110-sized M.2 SSDs on the other end. The design of this conversion kit facilitates quick hard drive installation without the need for additional tools. The body of this conversion kit has 1/4' screw holes and comes with a 1/4” to 3/8” adapter to easily adapt to various scenarios. During use, the SSD housing can be mounted on the camera body/camcorder or tripod/bracket, although the memory card slot cover will always remain open because the two ends are connected by a plastic-coated cable.
Icy Dock incorporates a metal heatsink to keep the SSD cool during operation, along with LED indicators for status updates. CP130 is compatible with the EZ-Adapter MB104U-1SMB accessory, enabling users to quickly attach M.2 SSDs and access captured images or videos. Notably, CP130's connection interface is limited to PCIe 3.0 x2, offering a maximum bandwidth of around 16 Gbps, equivalent to 2 GBps. Users won't be able to fully utilize the maximum speed of PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 SSDs (up to about 4 GBps), whereas high-quality CFExpress cards provide read/write performance of around 1.7 GBps. Of course, the advantage lies in the affordability of PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 SSDs compared to premium CFExpress Type B cards.
According to Icy Dock, CP130 is compatible with camera models including Canon EOS R3, R5, 1DX, C300 Mark III, C500 Mark II, Nikon Z9, Z7II, D500, D850, Fujifilm X-H2S, and Panasonic Lumix GH6. Overall, CP130 will function with any device featuring a CFExpress Type B slot. The price of the Icy Dock CP130 is currently undisclosed but is expected to be around 200 USD.Icy Dock
