Step-by-step guide to withdrawing money from ATMs with chip-embedded national ID cards
Recently, the Research Center for Population Data Applications and National ID Cards experimented with using chip-embedded cards as an alternative to ATMs at branches in Hanoi and Quang Ninh. Vietinbank and BIDV are the first banks to implement this service.
National ID cards are integrated with fingerprint biometric authentication technology to connect with national citizen data. This will reduce the risk of card fraud and enhance the security of financial transactions.
Customers scan their national ID cards at ATMs, and the system checks and verifies the information on the cards. Additionally, the system verifies information by scanning faces and fingerprints.
The time taken to verify customer information is only 6 to 8 seconds, extremely fast. Customers who have transitioned from ID cards to national ID cards but have not updated their information with the bank can still perform transactions. In the future, this cash withdrawal method is expected to expand across the entire banking system and other regions.
According to information from the Ministry of Public Security, the National Database System and the Production and Management System of Citizen ID Cards have managed to assign identification numbers to 98,713,820 residents nationwide; received 69,918,619 applications and issued 63,422,126 citizen ID cards across the country.
As of April 21, 2022, the Ministry of Public Security has received 392,369 applications for issuing electronic identification accounts nationwide at locations where procedures for issuing or renewing chip-embedded citizen ID cards are accepted.
Priority for electronic identification accounts is given to 03 groups: (i) Students participating in the national high school graduation exam; (ii) Policy beneficiaries (the poor and near-poor, individuals with meritorious service, and those entitled under Resolution No. 11); (iii) Individuals within the prioritized age range employed in the fields of Information Technology, Telecommunications, civil servants, officials, workers of agencies, organizations, and enterprises.
