Experience the rare ancient banyan tree with a hundred branches in Cần Thơ
The banyan, also known as the 'small fruit of silk,' belongs to the Mulberry family. In Vietnam, this tree often grows wild in areas affected by tides, along riverbanks, canals, and streams, with thick trunks and numerous branches.

In Phong Điền district, Cần Thơ, emerges an ancient banyan tree with hundreds of unique branches, sparking curiosity among tourists from near and far. This banyan tree stands about 15 meters tall, with a canopy spreading nearly 3,000 square meters, surrounding the precinct of the Bà Temple, located near Bà Thợ stream.

The banyan tree is a species with a wooden trunk, with aerial roots sprouting from the trunk and higher branches. These roots grow long, penetrating into the ground to absorb water and nutrients to nourish the tree. After over a hundred years of development, the banyan tree in the temple has a large, rugged main root, with sprawling roots spreading everywhere.

The leaves of the banyan tree grow in clusters, with sharp, pointed tips, and the flowering season occurs in May every year. The small branches on the tree continue to grow, sending down aerial roots into the ground to help the tree spread further. As the banyan tree ages, it branches out more and more, attracting attention with its expansive canopy covering a vast area.

Nestled within is the Bà Temple dedicated to Lady Thượng Động Cố Hỷ - revered as the benefactor of the villagers. Every day, hundreds of tourists visit here to explore and pay homage. Annually, on the 28th of the 2nd lunar month, the temple holds a ceremony to offer prayers to Lady Thượng Động Cố Hỷ for national prosperity, favorable weather, and prosperity in business.

Right near the main trunk is a plaque recognizing the banyan tree as a Vietnamese heritage tree since 2013. This is also the first heritage tree in the Mekong Delta to be certified as such.
