Microsoft continues to enhance its Office apps for mobile devices, bringing them closer to the functionality of the desktop Office version. In the latest Word update, the company has added support for viewing and navigating to document headings, which can be very useful when reviewing long documents on mobile devices.
Once the update is rolled out, users can open the Headings Pane and navigate to desired sections in the document with just a few taps. Additionally, Microsoft is also experimenting with a feature called Auto-Detected Headings. If your document doesn't have headings, Microsoft Word will automatically detect headings using AI and machine learning. Then, the AI integrated into the Word app for mobile devices will attempt to detect and mark items likely to be headings.
Certainly, algorithms at present aren't flawless, thus, it's best you craft your own titles. To do this, open the Home tab and click on Styles. Once you've created Headings, you'll find them in the Headings Pane for quick navigation.
This feature will be available in Word version 13530.10000 for Android and 2.43 for iOS.
Besides Microsoft Word, Microsoft Launcher for Android will also receive a significant new update with improvements to the app grouping feature and enhanced consistency in spacing/icon for the App Drawer.
According to the release notes, the update will come with an intriguing new feature called 'Keyword search' in the Office app, but it's unclear whether this feature is related to the Office widget or will only function within the Office apps.
