WordPress Vulnerabilities Increased Threefold in 2018

A recent study indicates that WordPress vulnerabilities increased threefold in 2018, with most vulnerabilities originating from third-party plugins extending WordPress website functionalities.

Providing the foundational platform for approximately 30% of all websites on the Internet, WordPress is currently the most popular Content Management System (CMS), followed by Joomla and Drupal.

The popularity of WordPress also serves as one of the main reasons attracting the attention of cybercriminals.

Furthermore, the number of Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities has doubled this year, constituting 14% of all reported security flaws found on web applications last year.
