Memories of Distance!
This summer, it seems you won't be visiting your grandparents, right? Ever since your family moved to a new neighborhood, there have been many changes. I wonder now, living in the city with its constant sunlight, if Nhung still yearns and eagerly awaits the arrival of summer. I still remember how, in the past, every freezing winter, we both longed for the early arrival of summer. We both love summer, love the radiant golden sunlight.
Somehow, in a country with such diverse weather, the contrast is remarkable. Yet, as the phoenix flowers begin to flaunt their red hues, thoughts of Nhung come flooding back. I wonder if Nhung still recalls the phoenix tree in front of our neighborhood? Beneath that tree, we used to play shuttlecock and other games. Whenever the wind wanted to tease us, it would gently shake the phoenix tree, and its leaves would fall lightly upon us like raindrops. But at that moment, we were both lost in reverie. But oh Nhung! The phoenix tree has fallen victim to a fierce storm. It was too old and couldn't withstand the force of the recent tempest. Now, in its place stands a persimmon tree. Meanwhile, the oak tree still stands tall, old but resilient. It still casts a cool shade, sheltering the children at play.
The neighborhood has undergone many changes. The yard is no longer cluttered with bricks and soil. Now, it's a concrete yard. Every morning, the residents of the collective community wake up early, gather in the yard for exercise, and breathe in the fresh air. Summer mornings bring a refreshing and pleasant atmosphere that makes everyone comfortable, relieving the stifling heat and discomfort of the cramped apartments. They breathe deeply and enjoy that very pleasant sensation.
The children play badminton, jump rope. In the summer, everyone wakes up early, so the atmosphere throughout the neighborhood is lively and vibrant, unlike other seasons. Because in the summer, the children have their summer break, so they play to their heart's content instead of waking up early to prepare for school.
Summer also brings many lively activities. Oh Nhung, every time summer arrives, I miss you so much, reminiscing about the daring adventures we had planned for the summer. I wonder when I'll get to see you again.
In that distant city, does Nhung embrace summer with excitement? Has Nhung made many new friends yet? Is life enjoyable where Nhung resides? Please, Nhung, enlighten me about the neighborhood you call home. I await your letter eagerly.
Your closest companion!
