The Celsius symbol, defined by Microsoft as a special character in Symbols, cannot be typed using standard keyboard characters (it's not available on the keyboard, in fact). To insert the Celsius symbol in your text, you'll need to use a tool within Word 2016 and know the right method.
In this article, I'll introduce several methods for inserting the Celsius symbol that you can reference.
WRITING CELSIUS IN WORD 2016
Method 1: This method works not only in Word but also in Powerpoint and Excel.
This is the simplest way—just highlight the Celsius symbol as shown below, then copy and paste it into the desired positions in your Word document.
Method 2: Use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + plus sign (+)
This is a quick shortcut that helps you write Celsius swiftly. Press the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + plus sign (+) to enter exponent mode. Now, type the letter 'o' to get the Celsius symbol.
Please note that after finishing, press the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + plus sign (+) again to return to the original input mode.
Method 3: Find and insert the Celsius symbol from the 'Symbol' inventory
Step 1: Go to the Insert tab >> select Symbols >> Further select Symbols and click on More Symbols.
Step 2: In the Symbols window, click on Font and choose Normal text, then select Subset and choose Latin-1 Supplement. A character table will appear; locate the character as shown in the image, with the code 00B0, then click Insert.
The result of typing Celsius in Word 2016 will be displayed as shown in Method 2 above.
Method 4: Use the shortcut ALT + 0186
This is also a quick shortcut. With this method, press the shortcut ALT + 0186 to insert the Celsius symbol. Note that this works only on laptops with a numeric keypad on the right.
Press the shortcut: ALT + 0186 , meaning press and hold the ALT key, then sequentially press the numeric keys on the right-side numeric keypad 0, 1, 8, 6, and release the ALT key. The Celsius symbol will automatically appear.
