Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy Z Flip5, a vertically folding smartphone, next month. However, the company will face competition from another Android smartphone manufacturer.
After OPPO, Vivo, and Motorola under the Lenovo umbrella, Xiaomi is now rumored to be planning the debut of a clamshell-style vertically folding smartphone.
Xiaomi's concept for a vertically folding smartphoneDigital Chat Station, a reputable leaker, has revealed that Xiaomi is working on a flip-phone-style smartphone with a foldable inner display. This device may have a design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip5 but is expected to be significantly smaller than other folding phones currently on the market.
Reports suggest that Xiaomi's first folding phone will be incredibly thin and lightweight. To achieve this, the Chinese company may need to make sacrifices in aspects such as the external screen, camera, or battery capacity to create the thinnest folding phone in the market. Additionally, it is still unclear whether it will use a high-end or mid-range SoC to offer a more affordable price point, similar to the Motorola Razr 40.
Hopefully, in the upcoming days, we will witness more information surfacing about Xiaomi's forthcoming vertically folding smartphone.
