The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 features an impressive square camera module design (updated on: 03/05)

On May 3rd, the Gizmochina website revealed leaked information about the design of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. The images were found in the latest update of MIUI China. It shows that MIUI only reveals the edges of the device and the camera position. The back of the phone features a square camera module design with rounded corners containing image sensors. Personally, I quite like how Xiaomi uses this trendy design, which optimizes increasing the rear surface area of the phone instead of using a large rectangular camera frame like the first-generation MIX Fold.

Unlike its predecessor, the MIX Fold 2's selfie camera is designed to be hidden beneath the display, allowing the phone to have an infinity display for a better viewing experience. Additionally, the external display adopts a hole-punch design for the selfie camera located in the middle of the upper part. This suggests that the MIX Fold 2 could feature a Super AMOLED display supporting a 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+. It promises to deliver sharp images with vibrant colors, providing users with a great visual experience.

Mi MIX Fold 2 will have an under-display camera

According to information I found on the Gizchina website, Mi MIX Fold 2 will be equipped with a secondary camera inside the main screen, with the most notable feature being the possibility of it being an under-display camera. As you may know, the Mi MIX Fold has a large, flawless unfolded screen because it doesn't have any cameras. However, this has posed a challenge for those who frequently use the device's large screen for video calls or taking selfies.

So I think having a camera hidden under the screen would solve this problem, allowing users to freely use the camera inside the main screen for taking photos or making video calls. Plus, having a camera under the screen would maintain a flawless display, while also addressing the lack of a camera on the predecessor generation.

Mi MIX Fold 2 will have a 120 Hz refresh rate display

According to Gizchina, Mi MIX Fold 2 will upgrade the refresh rate of the main screen to 120 Hz, while the external secondary screen will maintain a 90 Hz refresh rate. As for the size, it may be similar to the predecessor version. I think this is a very worthwhile upgrade. If you didn't know, the Mi MIX Fold's main screen has a refresh rate of only 60 Hz, but the secondary screen when folded has a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

Ideally, the main screen should have a higher refresh rate because users often use this screen more. But Xiaomi equips it with only a 60 Hz refresh rate, so the experience on the main screen will not be as smooth as the 90 Hz refresh rate on the external secondary screen. Therefore, I think upgrading the main screen to 120 Hz is very necessary. Combined with an external secondary screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate, Mi MIX Fold 2 will provide users with a smoother experience, worthy of a premium smartphone.

Mi MIX Fold 2 may be launched by the end of this year

Sources from Igeekphone suggest that the device may be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
