YouTube is the largest video-sharing website on the Internet today, with hundreds, if not thousands, of daily visits. Correspondingly, the loading speed of videos on YouTube has significantly decreased. There are numerous methods to help you boost the speed of watching videos on this website. The following article will guide you through each of these methods.
Speeding Up Video Viewing on YouTube
* Method 1: Configure Firewall settings on your computer.
Step 1: Open the Command Prompt window (cmd) (refer to additional articles on how to start Command Prompt on Windows 7)
Step 2: Copy the following command line into Command Prompt
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”TWCYouTubeFIX” dir=in action=block remoteip=173.194.55.0/24,206.111.0.0/16 enable=yes
Press Enter
Step 3: Restart your computer and play any YouTube video. Initially, the video may load a bit slowly, but the loading speed will significantly improve.
Note: If the above method is ineffective, cancel the command by entering the following command line into Command Prompt
* Method 2: Play Videos on HTML5 Technology Platform
The latest HTML5 technology allows you to watch YouTube videos much faster than before. Previously, your computer had to have Flash Player installed to watch online videos. Now, YouTube uses HTML5 technology as a replacement. However, not all videos support HTML5, so you can watch videos using this technology on a case-by-case basis.
Step 1: Access the YouTube HTML5 Video Player mode
Step 2: Click Request the HTML5 player to activate this mode
If you no longer want to use this feature, go to the HTML5 address, click Use the default player to revert to the default player status as initially requested.
* Method 3: Disable Dash Playback
This is the most effective method for computers using outdated operating systems, with slow internet connections, and wanting to load the entire video instead of streaming it. YouTube has a mode that splits video files into smaller parts, each containing a corresponding video segment developed using DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) technology.
Step 1: To access the YouTube installation folder, your computer needs to install an add-on for YouTube called YouTube Center. You can download add-ons compatible with each web browser here.
Step 2: After installing the add-on for your browser, access YouTube, go to YouTube Center Settings --> Player --> Turn off Dash Playback
These three methods are the most basic ways to speed up video loading when watching on YouTube. You won't have to be frustrated with watching and waiting for the video to load or opening YouTube and waiting for the video to load before watching it in full.
