Last year, Google made it clear that it intended to retire Google Play Music and replace it with the new YouTube Music service. The company has taken steps to make this transition smoother. After allowing users to upload their mobile device music libraries to YouTube Music earlier this year—a feature inherited from Google Play Music—users can now seamlessly transfer their entire library from Google Play Music directly to YouTube Music.
The process is straightforward: after installing the YouTube Music app on Android or iOS, you'll see a button to transfer all playlists, songs, albums, and more to the new service. YouTube Music recommendations will update immediately with the new information, and Google will notify users via email once their library has successfully moved to its new home.
YouTube Music now offers the capability to upload your entire music library from Google Play Music.

To encourage users to make this move, Google has enhanced YouTube Music over time. Playlists can now hold up to 5,000 songs, up from 1,000, and if you're uploading songs saved on your mobile device, the app supports a maximum of 100,000 tracks—double what Google Play Music allowed. Additionally, with over 50 million songs, YouTube Music features like My Mix, Discovery Mix, and New Releases Mix make it easy for users to discover something fitting for their taste.
Google Play Music also provides a podcast listening experience, and for those interested, Google has streamlined the process of migrating subscriptions and podcasts to Google Podcasts. The recent availability of Google Podcasts on iOS and the introduction of Podcasts Manager by Google solidify its position as the company's dedicated podcast service.
From now on, those who prefer sticking with Google Play Music can continue to do so, but Google plans to shut down the service by the end of this year. The company assures they will provide plenty of notice before this happens, giving users time to migrate their content.
